Currently Blessing My Marriage

Do you follow @Rachkincaid on Instagram? If so, you’ve definitely seen her hashtag #currentlyblessingmymarriage, which is currently blessing my life in every possible way. If you don’t follow her, you absolutely should. Anyway, inspired by Rachael (who has no idea who I even am or that I’m doing this), I’m sharing a short list of things that are currently blessing my marriage. Ready? Here we go.

  1. COVID19 - Wait. Seriously? Yes, seriously. Being home together with an almost toddler is putting all of our skills to the test and it has been life giving in the same way childbirth is life giving. Painful, unglamorous, and utterly transformative. We will not be the same couple after this is all over.

  2. Pillow Talk - Lately we seem to be stay up talking after the lights are out. We start by sharing three things we’re grateful for and somehow that reminds us of another thing we wanted to talk about and suddenly we’re having some deep conversation about our hopes and dreams or laughing as we repeat lines from a comedy special we watched after bedtime.

  3. Reading together - Most nights we read together in bed for a few minutes and I love what it’s done for our relationship. Jeff’s current stack is heavily focused on business and leadership while mine is focused on mental health and fiction. Our conversations are more interesting than they were when we spent our post-bedtime hours in front of the TV. We’re teaching one another and learning from each other and it’s wonderful.

  4. Nap time - Since we’re both home most afternoons right now, it’s become a bit of a routine that when Lucy goes down for her afternoon nap, we also climb into bed for some quality time.

  5. Walks - Lucy, who is almost always busy doing something, quietly observes everything around her when we go for walks, which gives us the opportunity to have important conversations, like our weekly check-in and plan out how we’re going to juggle two jobs, side projects, an energetic job and a busy baby.
